Renault's front-wheel drive high cube contender has been updated for the 2006 model year and the big news is that all the engines are Euro 4 compliant.
There are three versions of the 1.5dCi common rail diesel (60, 68 and ', 84 bhp). Special edition 'Heavy Duty' models - 689kg payload and air con - will remain available powered by the old 65 and 80 bhp Euro 3 engines.
Something to bring a cheer to the hearts of the safety conscious is that Renault has taken the bold step of making ABS standard across the range.
The Renault Kangoo remains unchanged on the outside, but the interior gains a redesigned facia as well as new trim options.
Power steering is standard and suspension remains independent at the front while the rear has torsion beams and dampers. Payload is around 620kg for the standard vans, but there are uprated 800kg versions available with the 68 bhp and 84 bhp 1.5dCi.
Go for the + (Plus) specification and the package includes sliding nearside side door, electric windows, overhead parcel shelf, under seat storage tray, three-button, multi-function remote central locking and floor covering for the 2.7m³ load area among the extras.
The cubic capacity can be increased to 3m³ by specifying the optional folding passenger seat and swivelling bulkhead.
Fuel consumption for the 65 bhp 1.5dCi was an impressive 52mpg when we tested the old model, so expect something similar for the replacement.
One downside to going Euro 4 is that an oil change is now required every 12,000 miles, as opposed to 18,000 miles.
Renault Kangoo has received a serious round of updates that bring it bang up-to-date and we particularly welcome the fitment of ABS as standard.
