Peugeot Boxer Commercial Panel Vans...

The stylish Boxer also appears as the Citroen Relay and Fiat Ducato. Although Peugeot doesn't sell as many vans as Citroen, some fleets prefer the added kudos that the lion badge offers. In its latest incarnation, Peugeot has popped its head over the 3.5-tonne GVW barrier for the first time with a 4.0-tonne offering.

Three new Euro 4-compliant four cylinder common rail turbodiesel engines are up for grabs; two 2.2-litre units and a 3-litre that replaces the old 2.8-litre powerplant. The 2.2HDi is available at either 100 bhp or 120 bhp with peak torque figures of 184 Ib/ft and 236 Ib/ft respectively. The 3-litre is derived from the similar capacity engine found in the current Daily and in PSA/Fiat trim produces 157 bhp and develops a healthy peak torque of 295 Ib/ft.

The two most powerful engines drive the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 100 bhp 2.2 uses a five-speeder.

There is not a bad powerplant among them and we particularly like the never ending torque provided by the 3-litre.

Disc brakes are fitted all-round and ABS is standard on all models. It's just a shame on the safety front that ESP traction control features on the options list rather than as a standard fitment.

The Boxer's cab is superb with supportive driver's seat and plenty of cubby holes and spaces, while in the back, there are three wheelbases, four body lengths and three roof heights to choose from. Being Peugeot, all the diesel engines are smooth and refined and power now goes right up to 160bhp for heavyweight usage.
