The Mitsubishi Shogun Van is based upon the latest 3.2DI-D three- and five-door passenger cars and sports a 3,200cc direct-injection turbo diesel under the bonnet. It's capable of producing maximum power of 162 bhp at 3,800rpm and developing peak torque of 275 Ib/ft at just 2,000rpm.
The amount of low-down torque on tap is astonishing and makes it a pleasure to drive; in town or out on the motorway.
All-round independent suspension endows this Mitsubishi Shogun with an on-road ride quality that belies it's off-road credentials; which are substantial, thanks to a very technically advanced, dual range, five-speed selectable four-wheel drive manual transmission. The power steering is remarkably direct in it action which helps make it relaxing to drive at cruising speed.
The cab is spacious and comfortable with plenty of storage space and the driving position is high and natural. The seats are firm and provide plenty of support on long journeys.
Load volumes are roughly 1.7m³ an 2.7m³ (LWB), gross payloads are 530kg and 685kg (LWB) and it can tow braked trailer of up to 2,800kg (SWB) and 3,300kg.
Fuel consumption is pretty reason- able at 29.5mpg for the SWB.
