Fiat Commercial Vans and LCVs...
Fiat's vocation for commercial vehicles goes back a long way: at the Milan International Exhibition in May 1901 the Company already presented two omnibuses and a trailer for firemen. Iveco was formed in 1975 through the merger of five European brands, and was joined by others over the years. Today, Iveco is one of the world's leading companies in the road transport sector.
Iveco designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of light (2.8 - 6 tons GVW), medium (6 - 16 tons GVW) and heavy (above 16 tons GVW) commercial vehicles for on-road and off-road use. It also produces public transport vehicles, special purpose vehicles for defence and civil protection applications, engines and firefighting vehicles.
Iveco operates in over 100 countries through its dealer network, joint ventures, licensees and participating investments. It is present in countries with a high growth potential such as China and South America. Iveco gave significant impetus to its growth strategy in 2006, especially in China, where three new joint ventures were finalized.
Iveco continued restyling of its product range in 2006. The New Iveco Daily Euro 4 was introduced in May 2006, in the van, cabin, and minibus versions, all with Euro 4 compliant engines. In September, at the Hanover 2006 Motor Show, Iveco presented the Astra ADT30 dumper for extremely heavy quarry activities, the Citelis urban transport bus, and the New Domino and the Crossway people carriers. It also presented a prototype heavy vehicle (Transport Concept) comprised by a semi-tractor trailer rig on a Stralis AS base. This prototype offers several innovative features for highly efficient transport solutions.
2006 was characterised by resurgent activity in the sector of innovative active and passive safety systems. In particular, the “Safety Truck” project (for a concept vehicle focusing on safety) launched a series of integrated technical solutions that enabled a leap in technology quality in this field. Research projects were undertaken in the field of advanced materials to provide a competitive response to applications in the vehicles sector and studies were carried out on the structure of the vehicle, for application of materials that can offer significant benefits. Studies continued on the use of new lubricants and systems for monitoring their wear and tear. Innovation involved prototypes of low-emission light commercial vehicles with diesel and methane internal combustion engines.
