Citroen's Berlingo high-cube van received a major makeover for the 2003 model. The most obvious changes were to the front end; bigger bumpers and a redesigned grille. Many of the most significant changes took place under the skin to improve front impact crash protection. The suspension was altered too, to decrease body roll in corners.

For the 2007 model year the Citroen Berlingo boasts 75 bhp and 90 bhp 1.6HDi Euro 4 diesel. These new engines offer greater torque than the ones they replace.

Both the ride and handling have progressed considerably and combined with the greater refinement and performance of the 1.6HDi engine make the Citroen Berlingo a pleasure to drive.

The cab has been completely revamped with a new steering wheel, revised dashboard, instrument cluster, switchgear layout and more storage space.

A full-width overhead shelf is standard and all Berlingo models bar the 600DX boast remote central locking, electric front windows heated mirrors. The radio volume and windscreen wipers are indexed to the van's speed. Also, for just an extra £400, the newly improved Berlingo Enterprise models now gain a nearside sliding side load door, as well as ABS and a CD player.

The load area remains unchanged at 2.8m³ and there is still the choice of 600kg and 800kg payload versions of most models. Sliding side doors are available as optional extras.

The Citroen Berlingo comes with a two years/unlimited mileage or three years/100,000 miles warranty.

Citroen has made what was already an impressive product just that little bit better. All the changes are worthwhile and come at virtually no cost.
